For the first half of calendar 2018, we ranked second in the overall South African copier and MFP market, growing unit shipments by around 30.8% year-on-year. This growth is particularly noteworthy in a difficult market where South African copier and MFP shipments dipped 4.5% when comparing the first half of 2018 to the same period in 2017.
We performed particularly well overall in the colour copiers and MFPs in the first half of the year and increased unit shipments by 35.5% and claimed 12.5% market share for the same period. In the mono copier and MFP market, KYOCERA achieved 18.6% market share and took first place.
Thanks to the effort of our staff and partners, we were in first position in A4 copiers and MFPs in the first half of the year, with a market share of 24.1%, and also recorded strong growth in A3 copiers and MFPs, increasing product shipments in this category by around 12.4%. Our growth in A3 colour copiers and MFPs was especially impressive, with unit shipments rising by nearly 33%.
We have seen growing traction in A3 colour segments throughout 2017 and the first half of 2018. The colour range continues to gain significant market share, highlighting the improvements of the new generation devices with regards to quality, colour clarity and functionality.
KYOCERA’s A4 MFP’s regained overall position 1 in the first half of 2018, with strong performance in both colour and mono devices. The new products continue to showcase our ability to manage the evolving needs of print services. Our focus will be to strengthen the security function we offer.

Kyocera Document Solutions, one of the world’s leading document solutions companies, has revolutionised the way customers pay for printing with its Three Tier Colour Billing system, ensuring customers need only pay for the colour they use.
Historically, printer service maintenance agreements charged the same price for a small amount of colour as they did for a full page of colour. Three Tier Colour Billing completely changes this pricing model by only charging customers for the actual colour they print. With Three Tier Billing, Kyocera offers colour print costs based on the actual usage of colour toner per page which allows the customer to simply pay for what they use.
Kyocera’s TASKalfa multi function colour range has one of the lowest colour costs per page on the market. With Three Tier Billing, customers will see significant savings on colour printing and copying with three additional counters which calculate the printed and copied pages measuring the coverage in three categories. TEXT+ (low coverage) would apply to printing a company logo on otherwise monochrome correspondence, CHART+ (medium coverage) applies to the printing of a report containing charts and graphs with text, and GRAPHICS+ (high coverage) for printing colour rich collateral such as brochures and presentations.
There are no hidden costs or charges with this service. Customers who would like Kyocera’s Three Tier Billing simply need to have it enabled on their TASKalfa Colour device.
